III. ACHIEVEMENTS AND GROWTH OF THE ORGNIZATION
1987 September 7 TRADA was inaugurated by Hon. Justice K.T.Thomas at a
small rented house in Manganam a village 7 Kms east of
Kottayam town on the Kottayam-Puthuppally Road, with
Ten staff members.
1989 Started the quarterly publication of ‘ASHA’ as well as
books on counselling and addiction
1990 January Central Govt.started giving grants to TRADA. De-addiction centre was shifted to Aymanam in to a more spacious building which was inaugurated by Smt. Lakshmy N. Menon, the then Central Minister from Kerala.
1991 TRADA National Institute of Social Sciences started to
provide training to field workers and counsellors.
1993 Started De-addiction centres at Panangad Kochi and Bangalore as well as Counselling Centres at Mangalore
and Trivandrum for HIV/AIDS (Heal India). Awareness
Generation Programmes launched in villages.
1995 With the financial assistance from Manos Unidas, TRADA
constructed its own building in the land purchased by TRADA at Manganam and the De-addiction Centre and other offices of the various projects were shifted back to Manganam. De-addiction treatment camps were organised in rural areas as a novel venture of Holistic community programmes.
1996 MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMMES for the students were launched in Industrial areas around Kottayam.
1997 AWARENESS GENERATION PROGRAMMES were launched in
Industrial areas around Kottayam.
1998 CONSCIENTISATION PROGRAMMES AGAINST HIV/AIDS were launched during the year on a high pitch.
2000 Organized the first NATIONAL CONFERENCE on Substance Dependence, HIV/AIDS and Mental Health (NACOS 2000) at Kottayam, Kerala, India which was inaugurated by the then Lt.Governor of Kerala, Retd. Justice Sukh Dev Singh Khang.
College and school mental health programmes were intensified including sexual education & HIV/AIDS apart from Addiction in its curriculum. Launched the Reproductive and child health programme.
2002 Starting of Information & Guidance Centre for HIV/AIDS in
collaboration with Christian Medical Association of India,
New Delhi.
2004 The training wing, TRADA Institute of Social Sciences has
signed MOU with Martin Luther Christian University and
started Masters Programmes, MSW & M.Sc. Counselling
Psychology at the Institute.
2005 Launching of Free Medical Camp & Psycho-social
Management Programme for the victims of Tsunami at
Andhakaranazhi and Pallithode Villages of
Cherthala,Alappuzha District.
Shifting of the Counselling Centre, Ernakulam to
Nirmal Bhavan, Andhakaranazhi, Cherthala, Alapuzha Dist.
2006 Starting of Home for women in Distress called Karuna
Bhavan and Launching of Skill Training programmes
to help women in distress through Karuna Bhavan.
2008 As per the Revised Scheme of the Govt. of India, name of the
De-addiction Center has been changed to “Integrated
Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA).
2011 Started Medical Camp at Vandiperiyar for the Adivasis and
Tea Plantation workers.
TRADA celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 8th October 2011 in
Memorable way together with the Golden Jubilee of All
Kerala Joint Christian Temperance Movement.
2012 Undertaken the project of Kerala State Social Welfare Board
for conducting Awareness Generation programmes for rural
and poor women through camps
2013 Organized a State level Conference on Gender Issues and
Women empowerment, child problems and management
through effective parenting.
Got the affiliation of Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong,
Meghalaya for conducting Masters Programmes MSc CP & MSW
2014 TRADA received Minority Status Certificate from the
National Commission for Minority Education Institutions,
New Delhi.
TRADA received National Award from the President of
India Shri. Pranab Mukherjee for the Best Integrated
Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts 2014 on 26.6.2014 under
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India.
Four of our PHD STUDENTS RECEIVED DOCTORAL DEGREE from
Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong
2015 Two of our PHD STUDENTS RECEIVED DOCTORAL DEGREE from
Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong
2016 Forming of NARCOTIC ANONYMOUS GROUP first
time in Kerala with the help of Kripa Foundation, Mumbai
- NABH Accreditation received for a period of three years from
23rd February 2018 till 22nd February 2021.
Undertaken ‘KAVAL’ Project of Women and Child Development
Department of Govt. of Kerala – an Intervention programme for
Children having conflict with law.
2019 Signing of MOU with Martin Luther Christian University,
Shillong as their Accredited Partner.
2020 Implementation EAT Module under PFMS of Govt. of India
and sharing of CCTV link in TRADA’s website.
2022 Signed MoU with TREDA, Bangalore for conducting P.G.Diplomas
of CMAI and MSc CP/MSW Lateral Entry of Martin Luther
Christian University and courses of other Universities

2023 Signed MOU WITH NATIONAL HOMOEOPATHY RESEARCH INSTITUTE IN
MENTAL HEALTH (NHRIMH), KOTTAYAM to conduct Study on ‘Efficacy
of Individualized Homoeopathy as an adjuvant to standard care in
Cannabis and/or Opioid withdrawal syndrome and relapse
assessment: A double blind, Randomized, Placebo Controlled Trial’.
2024 STARTED COLLABORATION WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF CATHOLIC MENTAL HEALTH
MINISTERS INDIA (CMHM), Bangalore under CBCI to promote mental
health in the Society.
2025 Received Dr K C Baby Olickal Memorial Rotary Award for
Humanitarian Services – 2025 in Addiction prevention, treatment and
Rehabilitation
Signed MoU with Assumption College, Changanacherry to facilitate
Academic collaboration for offering Post Graduate Diploma in
Family, Addiction and Mental Health Counselling.
