TOTAL RESPONSE TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE (TRADA)
Total Response to Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TRADA) is an Organ of the All Kerala Joint Christian Temperance Movement started in 1987 as an Ecumenical venture of the major Five Episcopal Churches (Catholic, Jacobite, Orthodox, CSI & Marthomite) in Kerala.
In 1987 the leaders of the Temperance Movement in Kerala like Mar Joseph Pallikaparampil (President Emeritus), Late Rev. Fr. George Kolath and Sr. Dr. Joan Chunkapura (Co-founder and the present Secretary) – all pioneers of the temperance movement of that period sat together and decided to register a Charitable Society under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Society’s Registration Act 12 of 1955 for the Treatment of addicts of Drugs and Alcohol. Thus TRADA was registered as a Charitable Society on 26th December 1987 at Kottayam with registration No.K.523/87. This esteemed organization offers a comprehensive residential treatment program for individuals struggling with addiction. For over three decades, TRADA has remained committed to its mission, providing a beacon of hope for individuals seeking recovery and a healthier future.
TRADA’s remarkable work has earned National Award in 2014 for its Residential De-Addiction Treatment Programme sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India, under the leadership of Sr. Dr. Joan Chunkapura

Patients who are admitted at TRADA are diagnosed as per ICD-10 criteria. Our model recognizes that drug and alcohol dependence is a family illness and a behavioural disorder. Detoxification is provided after careful medical evaluation under a skilled Nursing Unit. This unit is functioning round the clock.
We have a four dimensional treatment to our clients:- Physical, Psychological, Social and Spiritual. TRADA inpatient Programme includes clinical assessment, detoxification, individual and family counselling, family and marital therapies. The patients attend daily lectures, have meals together, participate in daily group and community therapy sessions, perform therapeutic tasks and assignments. Peer group techniques and mutual assistance in self-help groups are important factors in the Programme besides A.A., Al-anon, N.A. and other spiritual therapies.
